Fat Loss Exercise

lose weightA crucial part to losing fat is exercise.  Probably the most difficult thing to schedule into your already, too-busy day.  You need to put it in perspective, prioritize it.  Exercise is as important to maintaining a healthy body as eating right.

The benefits from exercise are many-fold.  First, it gets the metabolism going.  Second, it tightens the skin that’s going to get saggy when you start losing your fat.  (Yes, I used that ugly word “fat.”)  Third, it’ll make the body take its energy from the stored fat rather than from the muscle.  Fourth, exercise releases endorphins in the body that makes us feel happy.

The list of benefits goes on but that’s for a whole nother web page.

Adding strength training to your routine three days a week is beneficial as well.  But keep in mind, muscle weighs more than fat.  So, don’t only gauge your fat loss by what the scale says, gauge it also by how your clothes fit.

What exercises are best for you?  Well, what do you enjoy doing?  Nowhere does it say that exercising has to be miserable.  Walks are always good.  A brisk walk for cardio and a leisurely walk to take your mind off of that craving you have for the chocolate bar you found in your child’s back pack.

Dancing is also always good as a fat loss exercise.  Not the dignified, refined dancing you do at the night clubs, which is exceedingly beneficial, but the dancing you see the kids do where they’re sliding left, sliding right.  Up, down, hips swiveling like Elvis.  Make sure to put your arms into the action as well.

Take yourself back to the days of the Twist, the Mashed Potato, and the Charleston.  Find a partner and work on your jitter-bugging.

Swimming is fantastic for those who have joint problems.  This is my favorate fat loss exercise.  It’s also great exercise for anyone of any fitness level.  If you have access to a pool, dive in.  If you can’t swim, put on the floaties and do water aerobics.

The next thing is to get your exercise into your schedule.  If you’re a morning person, exercise in the morning.  If life gets in the way and won’t afford you that time slot, postpone it until later in the day.  Notice I said postpone, not cancel.

Don’t forget to hydrate.  When you’re exercising, if you wait until you’re thirsty, you’ve gone too long without water.  Take sips at regular intervals.  You’ll get the feel of it as the days go on.

Don’t forget the most important thing of all.  Get a check-up from your doctor before starting any fat loss exercise.
